MACILDOWIE TEAM LEADER NAMED AS RISING STAR

A procurement and supply chain team leader from recruitment specialist Macildowie has been named as this year’s ‘Rising Star’ at the Enterprising Women Excellence Awards 2011.

Claire Fletcher impressed the judges of the awards scheme, run by the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce, after launching Macildowie’s procurement and supply chain division in 2010.

The ‘Rising Star’ award is designed to recognise the efforts of those in the workplace who have gone the extra mile and achieved unrivalled success – something that was evident from Claire’s entry.

In an 18-month period, Claire secured contracts with high profile clients including Boots, Eon and Rolls Royce. She also took the division from a standing start to achieving a turnover of more than £500,000.

The judges were also impressed with Claire’s ability to juggle her career and fundraising efforts in her own time. In the past year alone, she has helped to raise £5,000 for the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough, which offers care for adults with progressive and advanced illness.

MACILDOWIE SUPPORTS EGG EMPLOYEES IN DERBY

Derby-based recruitmentspecialist Macildowie is hoping to find new positions for over 70 employees ofcredit card company Egg who face redundancy.

Having previously workedwith Egg, members of the Macildowie team were called in to the Pride Parkoffices to take part in an outplacement day, which saw those affected by thecuts getting advice on vacant positions in the area.

The session resulted in over70 potential candidates for new roles, who are now undergoing sessions on CVsand interview preparation with Macildowie consultants before meetingprospective employers.

MACILDOWIE PROCURES SUCCESS WITH NEW DIVISION

East Midlands recruitment specialist Macildowie hasannounced excellent first year results from its newly established procurementand supply chain division.

The five strong team, which is headed up by ClaireFletcher has announced a first year turnover in excess of £510,000, which itconsiders to be an amazing achievement for a division started from scratch justa year ago.

MACILDOWIE EXPANDS SUCCESSFUL TRAINEE PROGRAMME

Recruitment specialist Macildowie has announced plans to take on a record number of new graduate trainees.

The company, which operates across Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire,Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire, will welcome a total of 16 newrecruits to its long-running Talent Pool scheme over the next 12 months – thebiggest intake in Macildowie’s history

Each will receive comprehensive sales training on candidate sourcingand researching markets. They will also get the chance to work with both activeand passive job seekers, before hopefully going on to become a fully fledgedconsultant.

The trainees will join Macildowie, which specialises in HR, financeand procurement and supply chain recruitment, in four groups over the comingmonths.

Amongst the first group is business economics graduate Chris Huffenand former HR and training administrator Sophie Steenberg. They will be joinedby Rebecca Downes, who previously worked as a business payments advisor.

MACILDOWIE UNVEILS TEAM EXPANSION

Macildowie, the East Midlands recruitment specialist, has announcedthe appointment of three new consultants.

The new recruits will be split across the company’s Nottingham andLeicester offices, with each focusing on one of Macildowie’s three areas ofspecialist recruitment - HR,finance and procurement and supply chain.

University of St Andrews graduate Tom McMillan joins the team withfive years experience in financial recruitment in both London and Nottingham.He will now be tasked with looking after the qualified finance interim desk forNottinghamshire.

Hollie Stone, newly graduated from the University of Leeds, willwork on procurement and supply chain recruitment across Leicestershire, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire,whilst Joel Stevenson will focus on positions up to £25k in the same sector,having previously studied law and criminology in Sheffield.

Continuing Macildowie’s reputation for talent development, Hollieand Joel take on their new roles after graduating from the company’slong-running Talent Pool trainee scheme.

LEICESTER FIRMS’ RELATIONSHIP SAVES 14 JOBS

Specialist recruitment company Macildowie has used its network of contacts to save 14 jobs in Leicester. The team at Macildowie stepped in when 14 clerical candidates were made redundant in the city, and secured them jobs at Consumer Money Matters, a subsidiary of Carrington Carr Holdings, also based in the city.

For Macildowie director, James Taylor, who is based at the company’s Leicester office, this was a particularly pleasing project to work on. He explains: “Many of the 14 had worked for the previous company for a long time and the concept of suddenly having to find a job was quite alien to them. We were fortunate to work for Carrington Carr locally, which is a business on the upward curve, and we were able to re-home the candidates there.”

Carrington Carr and Consumer Money Matters (CMM) specialise in activities such as will and estate planning and a range of other financial services.

Antony Crossman, commercial director at Carrington Carr Holdings, says: “We’ve been working with Macildowie for over ten years now, and this is a perfect example of the way they can link employees and businesses together.

“When Macildowie heard that there were to be redundancies at the other company, they used their contacts to get CMM through the door, so that we could tell those who were looking for jobs about our employment opportunities.”

James added: “What we’ve helped to achieve on this project isn’t new. We have such a broad range of clients, that these opportunities often come up but not in such great numbers. It is nice that we were in the perfect position not only to secure the livelihoods of the employees, but help a client on the upward curve to recruit.”

RECRUITMENT SPECIALIST RELOCATES FOR GROWTH

Macildowie, the Midlands HR, finance and procurement and supply chain recruitment specialist, has completed the move of its Leicester-based team to new, larger premises at Meridian Business Park.

At 2,710 sq ft, the space in Merus Court is significantly larger than the company’s former location on Charles Street in Leicester city centre, and will better suit the continued growth that Macildowie is experiencing as it expands its presence in its target sectors.

The open plan design of the office will help the team to collaborate more effectively, while the additional space means that more of Macildowie’s clients will be able to interview candidates on site.

In close proximity to the M1, the new office will be more easily accessible to both clients and candidates, and also puts the company in a stronger position to serve the nearby Northamptonshire and Warwickshire markets.

“Our new location offers real potential for growth and development,” commented James Taylor, a director at Macildowie. “Additional space means that we can provide more interview rooms and even hold evening workshops for clients and candidates on various topics such as LinkedIn.

“It’s also created a much more effective and inspirational working environment for the team. One whole internal wall is a white board, helping to facilitate easier real-time visual communication and the sharing of ideas amongst our staff.”

Macildowie’s Leicester office has been located on Charles Street since 1999, when the office opened with just three members of staff. Today the company has around 45 employees across the East Midlands.

RECRUITMENT SPECIALIST LAUNCHES PROCUREMENT AND SUPPLY CHAIN DIVISION

Macildowie, the Midlands financial and HR recruitment specialist, is set to expand its offering by launching a dedicated Procurement and Supply Chain Division.

The company, which counts E.ON, Boots and Next among its clients, will now be recruiting professionals for procurement and supply chain positions with public sector and blue chip clients, using the same trusted methods that it employs for financial and HR roles.

Macildowie has found in particular that there is a demand for more commercially-minded procurement and supply chain professionals across all sectors, and that these and financial divisions are beginning to work more closely together.

With this in mind, procurement and supply chain roles that Macildowie will be recruiting for will include: temporary and permanent positions for purchasing managers; buyers; senior category managers; supply chain managers and logistics managers and directors.

The move comes on the back of substantial growth for Macildowie, and the company now intends to tailor its unique brand offering to a new and exciting marketplace.

James Calder, director, said: “We found that there was huge demand in this job market sector and so decided to launch a specific division for it. It’s great news for us and for the regional economy as we’ll not only be placing people in jobs, but will also be announcing team appointments of our own on the strength of this new division.”

OBAMA INVITE FOR MACILDOWIE CHAIR

Ed Vernon the Chairman of Midlands based Finance and HR recruitment specialist Macildowie, has just returned from a business trip with a difference - as a guest of President Obama and Hillary Clinton at the White House.

Ed is a board member of Invest Northern Ireland and was invited to the function by the US Economic Envoy to Northern Ireland, Declan Kelly, as part of a recent strategic trade mission to the US comprising universities and the business community,

The event, part of the traditional St Patrick’s Day celebrations, was also attended by leading politicians from Ireland and was designed to develop export opportunities and encourage inward investment by investors in Washington DC and New York.

Ed, who spends much of his working week in Nottingham and Leicester said of the event:

“This was the second time I have been to the US recently with Invest Northern Ireland and there is a lot of renewed activity which can only be good for the UK economy.

“Given the amount of interest there is when I mention the East Midlands, I can only suggest that business leaders here should do more to increase their trade links with the US.”

Ed, who made his name in the business world when he sold his former technology business B.I.C Systems to the BT Group in 2004, acquired Macildowie with his former colleagues in 2007.

MACILDOWIE RAISES £588 FOR CANCER RESEARCH UK

On Thursday 22nd April staff and clients of the East Midlands based Recruitment Company Macildowie, HR and Finance Specialists, attended the company’s annual quiz night, which was held at The Time Bar in Leicester, and which raised a staggering £588 for Cancer Research UK.
Over 70 people attended the evening which involved a quiz as well as a raffle with some fantastic prizes including a digital camera, digital photo frame and a Spa Day. The night was well supported by a number of Macildowie’s clients including Next Plc, Keenpac, Primary Plus, Serco Leisure, Office Depot, BSS Group, Jelson Ltd, Groovy UK Ltd, Encore Personnel and Biddy Financial Services who took the prestigious title of Macildowies Quiz Champions for 2010.
Jo James from Macildowie said; “We chose Cancer Research UK as our charity as they provide support to an amazing cause which affects thousands of people every day. They also have a great attitude towards their fundraising and made it easy for us to organise which helped in creating a successful and fun evening.”

HR RECRUITMENT TEAM EXPANDS AS RECESSION CREATES GROWTH

HR recruitment specialist Macildowie is expanding its team to cope with increased activity in the Midlands HR professional recruitment market.

The business, which also specialises in financial recruitment, has established North and South Midlands teams and recruited its third new HR team member this year - HR consultant Haley Belfield for its South Midlands team, which is based in Leicester.

According to Macildowie’s head of HR South, James Stewart, the surge in human resource placements is not surprising as many firms needed HR teams more than ever in the recession.

“The HR recruitment industry saw a decline in appointments at the start of the downturn, but there has been an about turn by businesses and they have increased appointments as a direct result of the recession, with demand higher than at any time in the last three years,” explains James Stewart.

“This increase in HR appointments was not simply to handle team reductions, but also to manage additional training requirements for changing teams and employee engagement programmes to improve staff morale in the downturn.

“We have also seen a significant increase in the recruitment of roles with salaries of over £50,000 p.a., which was a very flat area of the market in 2008/2009.”

From Leicester, new team member Haley joins the business with a specialism in graduate recruitment and over five years industry experience. She will be assisting James and his team who provide HR recruitment services to blue chip and governmental clients across Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire and Milton Keynes.

The role will also see her developing new client relationships and creating links with Macildowie’s financial recruitment team.

Complimenting Macildowie’s HR South team, will be the HR North team, led by James Lawson, which has also recently increased its team strength with the appointment of Chris Francis.

Richard's running the first ever Charity Kilomathon!

Derbyshire finance recruiter Richard Bowe is running the world’s first Kilomathon on Sunday 14th March and in doing so is raising money for Rainbow Trust Children’s charity.

Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity provides practical and emotional support to families when their child has a life threatening or terminal illness; immediate help is available for families 24 hours a day. Support is offered from diagnosis through treatment and, should a family become bereaved, we continue to support them for as long as they need us. We help family members cope with the present and prepare them for the future.

Rainbow Trust relies almost entirely on voluntary donations and through the generosity of our supporters we are able to help around 1,000 families a year.
With your help the charity can support more families. Below is an idea of how the money is used:

• £100 pays for five visits to a child in hospital
• £500 keeps their 24 hour telephone helpline running for a month

RECRUITMENT SPECIALIST APPOINTED TO BUYING SOLUTIONS FRAMEWORK AGREEMENT

Macildowie, the Midlands based HR and financial recruitment specialist has secured a place on the recently awarded Non-medical, Non-Clinical Resources framework agreement available to the NHS and public sector.

This means that for the next two years, Macildowie will be supplying the NHS and related public bodies in England and Wales with non-medical and non-clinical temporary and fixed term staff in the fields of administration, finance, HR and procurement.

Places on this national framework are hotly contested and to make the selection process, Macildowie had to prove that it could operate to the highest Government standards. This meant demonstrating that it could offer quality candidates, carried out rigorous pre-placement checks, offered best practice and value for money and that it complied totally with EU and UK regulations.

“We’re delighted to add another Governmental contract to our portfolio of clients,” explains Macildowie director, James Calder.

13 PROVES LUCKY NUMBER FOR STUDENT ACCOUNTANTS

Midlands HR and financial recruitment specialist Macildowie has celebrated its 13^thyear as the main sponsor of the Annual Dinner of the Nottingham Chartered Accountants Students Society (NCASS).

The Dinner was this year held at the East Midlands Conference Centre, where 400 Nottingham students, lecturers and accountants gathered to enjoy fine dining, music and prestigious prize presentations led by Professor David Hunt, President of the Society.

As well as contributing to the costs of the NCASS Annual Dinner and other social events, Macildowie’s sponsorship also helps finance some of the running of the Student Society itself, by contributing to administration team costs. This Society was created to support students through their studies and crucially provide them with employment advice to help them kick-start their professional careers.

“We’re extremely grateful to the team at Macildowie for their crucial support, as without this type of funding from corporate sponsors, NCASS wouldn’t be able to provide such an excellent support to its student members,” explains Vice Chair of NCASS Matt Backler, who is also an assistant manager at Deloitte LLP.
