As 2016 draws to a close I’ve been reflecting on our own year in Macildowie HR. The three R’s of Recruitment, Retention and Resilience were our mantra in 2016.

Reward proved to be the most sought after talent in the East Midlands, closely followed by companies continuing to strengthen their talent and engagement strategy to drive recruitment and retention.

Looking back it’s safe to say that its been a year of change, not only the various interesting political and economic evolutions this year but also closer to home in the Macs team.

We’ve welcomed some great new talent into the HR Recruitment team with Sam Chambers, Charley Benns, Jess Davies and Juliet Ayling all coming on board.  We expect to see more in 2017.

Macildowie HR continues to demonstrate its quality and strength we were overwhelmed to see a third of our team takes seats on our high performers trip to Las Vegas Nevada in September. Team HR have continued to live the Macs values, deliver for our loyal customer base and have fun at the same time!

This years highlights as a team include us visiting  Centre Parcs Spa, team building “Laughter Yoga”, Emotional Intelligence workshops, a trampoline park, Canadian rummy, a unique five course breakfast and our Associate Director chef,  Darius Matusiak,  hosting a meal at his house.

We’ve also invested back into our community by spending an evening at the Maggie’s centre in Nottingham, enabling the better use of their cellars by rolling up our sleeves and helping with the clear out.   Additionally we hosted our first ever family BBQ, a personal favourite of mine, to raise money for Maggies – most money was raised in the stocks when every member of staff had the opportunity to cover our Exec Leadership Team with custard and beans.

We continue to have a passion to grow the team both organically and by bringing in great talent. I give testimony to our ability to demonstrate agility and investment in talent. My own role has evolved into a Business Manager from Divisional Manager. I’ve had the privilege of working with our Director of Sales Operations this year on our employee engagement survey. Not only content with the accolade of a Times Top 100 employer we wanted to really get to the nuts and bolts of helping Macildowie to be the best version of itself and each working group are now formed helping towards that goal.

Macildowie HR has always valued our network here in the East Midlands and sharing knowledge with our partners. The Academy has had its best ever year with the line up including:

  • The Resourcing Academy hosted by Experian focussing on talent, engagement and retention.

  • The Leadership Academy hosted by Pattonair on growing pains.

  • Ricoh showed us their environment and explored culture change.

  • PKF Cooper Parry kindly hosted the HR Academy on Wellbeing.

  • November saw three events including Women in Leadership, HR unravelling the influence on Finance and a joint event with LHH Penna, CIPD and Gateleys on “The importance of having a Plan B.

It seems a long time ago since we launched our new brand, but it was only April.  The look and feel alone have made a huge impact in the market place.  Candidates and clients have really engaged with the ambition of the new brand and we have also had an unprecedented number of competitor recruitment consultants wanting to come and work for us.

Finally, I am proud to remind you that we were recognised “outstanding” at the Recruiter Awards this year for our innovative service offering. We continue to develop our customer value proposition to ensure that we are viewed as “more than just another recruiter”.   We continue to deliver Linked In – Recruit for Free workshops to customers and have three seminars already scheduled to bring people up to speed with the dramatic changes to the platform 2017.  Our Mindmill Psychomeric assessment tool has evolved too, providing brilliant insight not only to hiring the right talent but also helping organisations to understand their own internal talent to encourage teamworking and communication.
