Financial Controller | £55,000 - £70,000 package | North Derbyshire
I am currently working on a position offering the opportunity to work with an up and coming business in an interesting sector, based in Derby. The business is group owned and current turnover sits at c£100m. The business forecasts solid growth over the next 12-18 months and this role has been created because of this growth. The role will look after 2 divisions of the business in the UK.
This Financial Controller Job is a newly created position and has the potential to progress over time.
You will be responsible for preparation of the divisional management accounts and financial analysis of the business, and work closely with the divisional management team. Responsible for a small team, you will work closely with the Finance Director to ensure accurate and timely billing, payments and reporting. In addition, you will assist with any Group reporting requirements and support the wider Finance team.
So what is the job?
- Firstly, you'll be directly and indirectly managing a medium sized team, including qualified, part qualified and clerical finance, which are responsible for the Transactional and financial reporting for the business, management accounts and internal controls.
- You will take full responsibility for the Financial Controls and Processes as well as the balance sheet, P&L, Budgets/Forecasts, cash-flow and group consolidated reporting
- You will take charge of all the company's Management Information, including Analysis and reporting to the Board, Creditors and Banks
- Preparing statutory accounts, working with external Auditors and implementing recommendations
- Responsible for Corporation Tax and VAT reporting and liaison with HMRC.
- The company operates internationally with a growing number of entities in the group, is ever changing, hence the need for someone who can work at pace
- The organisation has grown significantly over the last decade, including a new parent group. It is embracing the changing environment and how they interact with their customers
- You will be a natural leader and people manager who helps to coach the team, driving individual performance and continual improvement. There is a strong emphasis on developing the team to work in a more autonomous way. You will quickly identify gaps in skill and work with the team to bridge these gaps
- As well as this, you will be great with systems, you'll be able to identify system improvements that can help to refine financial processes, whilst also making sure that the integrity of that information is of paramount importance. Whilst generating the information is important, so is what you use it for! You will be someone who challenges the status quo and uses financial information to drive business outcomes and changes in behaviour across all levels of the organisations leadership team
What are you like?
- Qualified Accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA)
- Strong analytical and numerical skills
- Familiar with both transactional, financial and management accounting functions
- Advanced Excel skills
- Previous experience of working within a group structure would be ideal
- Demonstrable experience in preparing accurate and timely financial information for stakeholders
- Ability to discuss financial issues with non-finance managers
- Accounts Receivable experience
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Able to work within a team
- Able to work independently and manage own time effectively
- Ability to prioritise, work to financial deadlines, adapt to change, provide pragmatic solutions to problems
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure and use own initiative
