Job Description

Macildowie is currently working in partnership with a market-leading manufacturing business based in Northampton to appoint a Buyer for the Metals Category of their business. This role is designed to support the business in ensuring that day to day supplier commercial and performance requirements are met and exceeded and to perform supplier development activities which result and contribute to significant business improvements in cost and efficiency.

The successful Buyer will:

- Support the operations team, ensuring suppliers meet performance , quality and deliver against costs
- Sourcing new suppliers across a global supply base
- Analyse market and delivery systems in order to assess present and future material availability
- Direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in buying, selling, and distributing materials, equipment, machinery, and supplies
- Understand the business objective for supplier cost improvements and develop strategies
- Achieve the given cost improvement objectives through a balanced mix of benchmarking, leverage of new business, direct negotiation, long-term agreements
- Agree development plans with suppliers
- Ensure that new products have been correctly set-up and managed and understand any long term commercial issues or benefits which need to invoked during the product's life
- Prepare reports regarding market conditions and merchandise costs
- Any other duties reasonably allocated by the Purchasing manager or Operations Manager

Person specification:

- Relevant experience within a manufacturing environment / Metals category
- CIPS Qualified - Desirable, although relevant experience will be considered
- Analytical Thinker with excellent negotiation preparation and execution skills - this should be illustrated with a proven track record
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills
- Highly motivated and results focused
- Customer focused and concerned with meeting and exceeding customer expectations
- Full UK Driving License and flexibility to travel when required
