Keywords: Managing Director / Director / MD
Macildowie have been retained to help a growing Software and Professional Services Consultancy appoint a new Managing Director. This critical, strategic role has been created through organic growth whereby the existing MD is helping establish a separate business and needs to have this as their main focus, thus creating this opportunity. This therefore represents an uncommon and extremely attractive chance to lead a business which is making significant positive strides to delivering against ongoing growth forecasts. Importantly, there is a 3-5 year exit plan in place against which it is expected the incumbent of this new role will receive an LTIP for successful sale. If you are pondering a move to a new MD appointment and are pausing due to the fluid/unpredictable investment landscape or perhaps you fear undisclosed challenges await you when you move - fear not. This is a role where the opportunity to exploit those opportunities are in play, underway and being actively pursued!
So what person is being sought? Well let's talk through the technical skills first. Here are the filters the successful person will need to pass through:
- A background in the software (SaaS) sector
- Ideally experience of professional services in addition to the above
- Active involvement in the sale of a business, whether PE/VC/M&A or MBO
- Having held a senior position in the business where you have lead teams of top tier employees
If you have this experience and consider yourself:
- Passionate about the solutions software can offer
- Able to develop business through networking or direct action
- Someone to whom customers return
- Having a curious mindset which helps you win trust with employees and customers alike
- Driven enough to push for excellence in all things
Then this could be a fabulous next step for you. Especially if you enjoy a challenge. The challenge here being how to help the business focus on target markets, improve the value prop, create marketing presence to increase customer acquisitions, keep the employees engaged and yes, you'll also have your fair share of getting the brews in.
The last point was an important one. This business is a small, nimble software and professional services consultancy. The staff retention is superb because culturally, they work for the same reasons. They love giving customers solutions to their problems. They love that the journey doesn't end with the customer once the software solution is embedded. They love how these things evolve. That means communication is key internally as well as externally. There are no offices in which to hide. You will be working in a business where individuals are leaders. And you will need to lead too. Lead not just from a business administration perspective, but far more importantly, from a business pipeline perspective. By whatever means you see possible, your role will be to help the business grow. You will be business developing. Fuelling the business machine that you are driving - and yes, the cups of tea/coffee you give the troops from time to time may sound trivial, but will be an important marker in your leadership DNA.
If you love this full immersive sleeves-rolled-up approach to your leadership game, then we want to hear from you. You may well end up securing a role where in 3-5 years you sell the business and exit with a % of sale, % EBITDA growth, equity or some other LTIP mechanism.
So, if we have captured your imagination with this opportunity, please apply (in confidence of course) as soon as possible.
