We seek a Divisional Managing Director for a retailer/wholesaler to help them sustainably grow a suite of products for a market where current trading conditions are extremely buoyant. The same is likely to be true for longer-term market conditions too, so if you are a senior Director (or equivalent) with a retail and/or wholesale background looking to join a business where you can drive sustainable (and exciting) revenue and EBITDA growth, then please read on.
So, a bit more about our client. They already trade via physical outlets and an e-commerce platform. One of the really exciting opportunities with this role is the further development of their e-commerce platform which has the potential of unlocking huge gains. Consequently, the client would ideally like an individual with a passion for and proven history of developing digital sales. Importantly, markets change and consumer behaviours change, so a leader is needed who has experience reading these changes and adapting their business model to mitigate risk and maximise revenue generation.
It's not just digital sales channels with exciting potential. Their physical sales team are highly skilled and motivated individuals too. The requirement here is twofold - firstly to add to their ranks without diluting the quality. Secondly, to help inspire and engage this team to achieve new levels of performance. After all, their market is (now more than ever) a very lively one. "Best evers" ought to be beaten, month-in, month-out. To do this sustainably will be the trick, and for that the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their ability to train and motivate employees and to do so with the customer in mind at all times to protect repeat business.
We mentioned earlier the need for someone to across market changes. Included in this is the responsibility to adapt the resources at your disposal in the business. By this we mean things like:
1) Assessing the physical infrastructure for warehousing
2) Managing procurement and supply chain opportunities and challenges
3) Ensuring the business model mix for e-commerce, B2B and B2C are mobilised to their optimum
4) Ensuring digital visibility and availability of products is optimised
In short, you will have a superb opportunity to shape, calibrate and deliver growth in a significant business unit where market conditions are as good as they ever have been. Wider business skills such as overhead cost management and the commercial review of any initiatives that affect your P&L are (we hope) likely to be second nature to the successful individual.
