Job Description

My client is a dynamic and growing business with a strong reputation in the manufacturing sector. They are building a robust finance function to support our continued expansion, and a newly created Finance Manager role is now being complemented by the addition of a Junior Management Accountant. This is an exciting opportunity to join the business at a pivotal stage and play a key part in shaping the finance team's success.


Purpose of the Role

The Junior Management Accountant will provide hands-on support to the Finance Manager in delivering timely, accurate, and insightful financial information. This role will suit someone AAT qualified, part-qualified (ACCA/CIMA), or qualified by experience, who is ambitious to grow their career in management accounting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Finance Manager in preparing monthly management accounts, including journal postings, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Maintain and reconcile key balance sheet accounts.
  • Assist with the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Provide timely financial reporting and analysis to support business decisions.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns and assist with compliance requirements.
  • Monitor cash flow and support working capital management.
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure accurate cost capture and reporting.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requirements.
  • Contribute to the development of new financial processes and controls as the finance function evolves.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

  • AAT qualified, studying towards ACCA/CIMA, or qualified by relevant experience.
  • Solid understanding of management accounting and double-entry bookkeeping.
  • Good IT skills, with strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel (e.g. pivot tables, lookups).
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g. Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work proactively and collaboratively in a small, growing finance team.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a management accounts role.
  • Exposure to budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis.
  • Experience working in the manufacturing sector. Not essential.

  • Strong communication skills, able to work effectively with non-finance colleagues.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with a "hands-on" approach.
  • Enthusiastic about contributing to the growth and development of the finance function.
