Finance Officer
Join a well-established and growing organisation in Nottingham City Centre as a Finance Officer, where your Accounts Payable expertise, leadership skills and attention to detail will play a key role in supporting a fast-paced finance function. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced AP professional to take ownership of projects, support process improvements and contribute to the ongoing development of the wider team.
About the Role:
As Finance Officer, you will support the smooth running of the Accounts Payable function, ensuring accuracy, compliance and efficiency across all processes. You will work closely with the AP Team Leader, providing support across reporting, reconciliations, payments and team development, while also helping to drive improvements within the department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support Accounts Payable-related projects and process improvements.
- Provide support and cover for the AP Team Leader when required.
- Assist with reporting progress and figures to management.
- Investigate and resolve historic discrepancies and outstanding queries.
- Manage supplier credit notes and refunds due.
- Monitor and manage unidentified cash held on expenditure bank reconciliations.
- Ensure adherence to regulations, internal controls and company procedures.
- Support the rollout and development of AP processes, including staff training.
- Provide full AP support during periods of leave and assist with backlogs.
- Carry out daily uploads and reconcile technical supplier statements.
- Process BACS, CHAPS and Faster Payments accurately and efficiently.
- Support the training and development of new starters within the team.
- Assist with ad hoc finance and administrative duties as required.
Key Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years’ Accounts Payable experience within a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Professional, confident and highly organised approach to work.
- Ability to motivate and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy and numeracy skills.
- Experience working to deadlines and managing workloads under pressure.
- A collaborative team player with leadership capabilities and a proactive mindset.
- AAT qualification or equivalent would be advantageous.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Experience with ledger housekeeping and project management.
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Knowledge of QUBE and Yardi systems is a distinct advantage.
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables.
- Understanding of general accounting procedures, compliance standards and regulatory requirements.
