Job Description

THE OPPORTUNITY:
Macildowie are currently recruiting for a Health, Safety and Energy Officer working for an organisation based in Oakham. This full time role of Health, Safety and Energy Officer will provide pro active input to the development and delivery of the organidations health and safety strategy and operational needs. This will include full compliance during inspections, reviewing risk assessments and investigating accidents. In addition, the role involves monitoring energy data, reconciling invoices and developing strategies for reduced energy consumption.

This is a full time temporary position

THE ROLE & YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:


Ensure up to date awareness of health and safety regulations, requirements and good practice

Advise on (and update as directed) all aspects of health and safety policy and strategy.

Convene termly Health & Safety Committee Meetings to be chaired by the COO to formulate the organisations health & safety strategy for recommendation to the Senior Leadership Team, and to ensure coordinated good practice and actions are carried through.

Monitor all fire prevention matters in the organisation, conduct Fire Risk Assessments and Fire Safety Audits to fulfil the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, including acting as the competent person, and any subsequent legislation.

Ensure fire practices take place and follow up issues with recommendations for action.

Liaise with any health & safety consultants and other external agencies (including the Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service fire service) as required.

Ensure that accident reports are completed and that the Health and Safety Executive is notified when required.

Provide health and safety knowledge and guidance to members of staff, Heads of Department and the Senior Leadership Team.

Review and update where necessary policies biennially (every two years) or when legislation changes; writing new policies to cover working activities.

Analyse and investigate accident statistics.

Liaise with external contractors to review risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).

Present and/or organise Health & Safety induction courses for new staff

Manage the Health & Safety Budget.

Manage the tender process for the selection of the School's energy broker or suppliers as necessary.

Work with the School's energy broker to ensure that the energy broker is delivering on their commitments and procurement of energy is carried out as cost effectively as possible, with appropriate VAT rating.

Work with the Estates Department to prioritise energy improvement projects and identify problem areas.

Develop, co-ordinate and implement strategies to reduce energy consumption.


Ensure accurate records are maintained and energy monitoring data (i.e. gas, electricity and water meter reads) are collected monthly.

Work with Finance to reconcile all energy invoicing and authorising payment to suppliers, set and manage the School's budgets for electricity, gas (for gas, degree day adjusted where appropriate) and water.

Provide data and reports on energy usage in an appropriate format for statutory compliance.

EXPERIENCE SOUGHT IN THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:
Appropriate experience in a health & safety management role.

IT literate with proven skills using MS Office suite (word, Excel, Outlook) including scrutiny and analysis of data (particularly relevant for the Energy

NEBOSH (General Certificate) qualified or working toward

IOSH qualifications in Health & Safety or working toward
