Job Description

FP&A / Finance Business Partner

Location: Grantham, Lincolnshire
Salary: £65,000–£70,000 per annum
Working pattern: Office-based / hybrid arrangements to be discussed

The Opportunity

Macildowie is working exclusively on behalf of a well-established, commercially driven business to recruit an FP&A / Finance Business Partner into its finance team.

Operating within a complex, operationally focused environment, the business is looking to strengthen its financial insight, improve the quality and accessibility of management information, and identify opportunities to improve profitability through greater efficiency.

This is an opportunity for a commercially minded finance professional who enjoys working beyond the numbers. You will play a key role in helping the business understand its performance, challenge existing processes and turn financial data into meaningful, actionable insight.

The focus is on business partnering, financial analysis and driving improvements, rather than traditional financial control or transactional finance.

The Role

Working closely with senior finance stakeholders and operational teams, you will help develop a more proactive, insight-led finance function. You will be expected to identify opportunities, challenge assumptions and demonstrate how financial analysis can translate into tangible commercial benefits.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Financial planning and analysis: Analyse financial and operational performance, identify trends and variances, and provide clear insight to support business decisions.

  • Business partnering: Work closely with stakeholders across the business to understand performance drivers, challenge assumptions and influence decision-making.

  • Margin improvement: Identify opportunities to improve profitability through cost control, operational efficiencies and improved resource utilisation.

  • Data analysis and integrity: Improve the accuracy, consistency and reliability of financial and operational data, ensuring reporting provides a clear picture of business performance.

  • Reporting and automation: Support the development of automated reporting and Power BI dashboards, reducing manual processes and improving the speed and quality of management information.

  • Cost and raw materials analysis: Review material costs, bills of materials and other key operational inputs to identify cost pressures and opportunities for improvement.

  • Performance management: Develop meaningful reporting and analysis that helps stakeholders understand what is happening within the business, why it is happening and what action is required.

  • Continuous improvement: Challenge existing processes, identify inefficiencies and help implement practical solutions that deliver measurable benefits.

  • Commercial decision support: Translate complex financial information into clear recommendations, supporting senior leadership with informed, commercially focused decisions.

About You

We are looking for a commercially astute finance professional who combines strong analytical capability with the confidence to engage stakeholders and influence business decisions.

You will ideally bring:

  • Experience in an FP&A, Finance Business Partner, Commercial Finance or Management Accounting role within an operationally complex business.

  • Strong financial analysis skills, with the ability to interpret data and explain the commercial implications behind the numbers.

  • Experience identifying and delivering cost savings, margin improvements, automation benefits or operational efficiencies.

  • Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to improving data quality and reporting processes.

  • Experience with Power BI, advanced Excel and/or financial reporting automation.

  • The ability to work collaboratively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.

  • A practical, solutions-focused mindset, with the confidence to challenge existing processes and recommend improvements.

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to present financial information in a clear, accessible and commercially relevant way.

You will be comfortable working in a changing environment, taking ownership of problems and seeing improvements through from analysis to implementation.

What Will Set You Apart?

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the tangible difference they have made in previous roles.

Examples might include:

  • Delivering measurable cost savings or improving gross and operating margins.

  • Automating reporting processes to reduce month-end or management reporting timelines.

  • Improving the accuracy and usefulness of management information.

  • Using data to identify inefficiencies and influence operational decisions.

  • Developing dashboards or reporting tools that give stakeholders greater visibility of business performance.

This is a role for someone who can demonstrate not only what they have analysed, but also what changed as a result of their work.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • A commercially focused position with genuine scope to influence business decisions.

  • The opportunity to contribute directly to margin improvement and operational efficiency.

  • A varied role combining FP&A, business partnering, data analysis and process improvement.

  • The chance to help shape the future of the finance function as it becomes increasingly insight-led and automated.

  • Direct exposure to senior stakeholders and the opportunity to demonstrate measurable business impact.
