We are now seeking a highly motivated Accounts Assistant Apprentice to join our small, close-knit finance team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to begin their accounting career and gain valuable, practical experience in a family-run business with a diverse range of operations.

The Role

As an Accounts Assistant Apprentice, you will be a key part of the finance team, supporting the Group Financial Controller and Accounts Assistant in various aspects of financial management. You will gain exposure to a variety of business areas, including farming, property, and development operations, while undertaking your apprenticeship and working towards an AAT qualification. This role offers excellent opportunities for career development as the business continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process purchase invoices for farming, property, and business operations
  • Manage bank payments and receipts
  • Assist with month-end reporting for management meetings
  • Handle day-to-day transactional processing for the dairy farm
  • Provide financial analysis to support the Group Financial Controller in understanding business performance
  • Perform supplier statement and bank reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly BACs payment sheets for approval
  • Process rent receipts and business transactions
  • Assist with managing the property portfolio
  • Produce performance reports for business activities such as holiday lets
  • Support the Accounts Assistant with various ad-hoc tasks
  • Attend regular business meetings to gain insights into operational challenges and performance
  • Be proactive in asking questions, providing feedback, and challenging processes when necessary

As you progress in the role, you will take on more complex tasks and contribute to strategic decision-making as you develop your understanding of the business.

  • Salary: National apprenticeship wage (depending on age and qualifications)
  • Working Hours: 9am to 5pm, with a 30-minute lunch break

About You

We are looking for a driven, detail-oriented individual who is passionate about learning and growing within the finance sector. The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • A minimum of 2 A-levels (Grade C or higher) or equivalent qualifications
  • GCSEs in Mathematics and English (Grade 4 or above)
  • A full UK driving licence (having your own vehicle is not essential)
  • Strong IT skills, with proficiency in spreadsheets
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • A proactive attitude with a willingness to ask questions and challenge processes
  • A team player who can communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders
