Fabrication/Welding Supervisor - Up to £40,000 Per Annum
Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm - Derby
Macildowie has exclusively partnered with a steel fabricator based in Derby to recruit a Fabrication/Welding Supervisor.
The key objective is to oversees all welding and metal fabrication activities whilst leading a team of welders and fabricators, ensuring that the team is maintaining lead times and meeting production deadlines.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead, train, mentor, and evaluate welders and fabrication staff.
- Assign daily tasks, manage priorities, and monitor team productivity.
- Translate technical drawings into clear fabrication steps, identifying material requirements, cut lists, weld sequences, and assembly procedures.
- Identify potential issues or discrepancies in drawings and proactively communicate with engineering or project managers for clarification.
- Inspect completed welds, assemblies, and fabricated components to ensure they meet engineering specifications and internal quality standards.
- Maintain and enforce Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), quality documentation, and compliance records.
- Implement corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives to increase quality and reduce rework.
- Conduct regular safety talks, inspections, and hazard assessments.
- Ensure proper use of PPE, safe operation of equipment, and adherence to safe lifting and handling procedures.
- Maintain certifications such as welding qualifications, forklift training, and equipment operation as required.
- Support the team with additional welding and fabrication duties when required.
- Plan the delivery of materials, ensuring that the planning system is up-to-date and the correct material has arrived.
The Candidate
- Previous experience operating in a senior Welding/Fabrication role or similar.
- Comfortably able to MIG & TIG weld.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Experience with Microsoft Office packages including Excel.
- Able to travel to Derby.
