Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and commercially astute procurement professional to join a high-profile public sector organisation as Deputy Head of Procurement. This is a senior leadership role within the Finance and Commercial function, offering the chance to shape strategic procurement activity and directly support the delivery of organisational priorities.

Reporting to the Head of Commercial and Contract Management, you will provide strategic direction and professional leadership across a wide portfolio of procurement activity. You will lead complex and above-threshold procurements, frameworks and compliant sourcing activity, while acting as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders on procurement law, policy and best practice. Ensuring value for money, regulatory compliance and strong customer focus will be central to your role.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and overseeing complex, above-threshold procurements, frameworks and requests for quotation in line with current legislation and best practice

  • Acting as the principal adviser on procurement law, policy and commercial governance, managing risk across all commercial activity

  • Developing strong, effective relationships with senior internal stakeholders to support long-term organisational objectives

  • Leading, motivating and developing a team of Commercial Leads to deliver high performance and commercial excellence

  • Managing and prioritising multiple procurement and commercial projects to agreed timescales and outcomes

  • Supporting and leading change initiatives to improve systems, processes and ways of working across the commercial function

  • Deputising for the Head of Commercial and Contract Management, including representing the organisation at regional and national forums

The successful candidate will bring substantial senior-level experience across a broad range of procurement and commercial functions, with in-depth knowledge of Public Contract Regulations and contract law.

You will be an accomplished leader with a strong track record of managing people, projects and complex stakeholder environments, ideally supported by MCIPS membership (or equivalent experience) and degree-level education.

A proactive, customer-focused approach and the ability to manage competing priorities in a highly regulated environment are essential.

This is a pivotal role for a driven procurement professional looking to make a meaningful impact within a values-led public sector organisation.

An attractive benefits package is on offer for the successful candidate as well as the chance to work for a highly-reputable organisation offering potential development opportunities.
