Macildowie is partnering with a large public sector organisation to recruit a Senior Category Manager overseeing Indirect services on a part-time basis. This is a high-impact leadership role, which will help shape and delivering procurement strategy across a significant indirect spend portfolio.

The Role

Reporting into the Head of Procurement, you will share ownership of the Indirect categories, leading end-to-end procurement activity to deliver value, compliance, and commercial excellence.

You will help manage a small team and work closely with senior stakeholders across the business, and wider functions, ensuring procurement delivers strategic outcomes aligned with public sector regulations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development and delivery of category strategy across indirect spend
  • Managing the full procurement lifecycle, from sourcing through to contract management
  • Ensuring compliance with public sector procurement regulations (including Procurement Act 2023)
  • Developing and managing supplier relationships and contractual agreements
  • Driving value, savings, and performance against procurement KPIs
  • Overseeing governance, risk management, and contract compliance
  • Leading and developing a team of procurement professionals
  • Supporting sustainability and responsible procurement initiatives (ISO20400)
  • Producing reports and insights for senior leadership and governance boards

About You

We are looking for a highly capable procurement professional with strong leadership and stakeholder management skills. who is looking for part time work, initially across 2 working days for a period of 12 months.

You will bring:

  • Proven experience in public sector procurement (essential)
  • Strong background in indirect categories and contract negotiation
  • MCIPS qualification (or working towards)
  • Demonstrable experience managing procurement projects end-to-end
  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical capability
  • Experience leading or mentoring teams
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, including working with senior leadership
  • Confidence operating in regulated procurement environments
