Job Description

Macildowie are delighted to be supporting Public Sector Audit Appointments (PSAA) to appoint a Contract Manager to join their team.

PSAA is an independent, not-for-profit organisation who are appointed by government as an Appointing Person under the under the provisions of the Local Audit and Accountability Act 2014 and the Local Audit (Appointing Person) Regulations 2015. In this role PSAA is responsible for appointing an auditor and setting scales of fees for relevant local government bodies in England that have chosen to opt into its national scheme and ensuring the effective management of contracts with audit firms for the delivery of consistent, quality and effective audit services. It provides these services to over 99% of local government bodies, such as local councils, police and fire bodies and national parks,

To support PSAA to manage the contracts that provide audit services to local government bodies, this newly-created post will join an experienced and talented contract management team to provide a high-quality, effective service to its opted-in bodies utilising your significant knowledge and experience.

This is a unique and varied role that offers an unrivalled opportunity to apply and develop your wide-ranging contract management skills gained throughout your career to date in a very different context.

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to,

  • Ensuring contract compliance, monitoring contract performance, and maintaining accurate records of all contract management matters
  • Triaging and reviewing fee variation proposals
  • Conducting formal and informal supplier meetings and proactively tracking actions
  • Acting where delivery performance falls below the required standard
  • Supporting the supplier to understand what is expected of them
  • Actively contributing to PSAA's Contract Management Group to evolve and embed our contract management arrangements
  • Communicating with our client opted-in bodies who receive audits through the contracts that you manage

The nature and scope of the role requires an experienced, confident and engaging contract management professional, and with a passion for providing high-quality services to both internal and external stakeholders, suppliers and clients. It is a given that you will be a delivery-focused professional, able to prioritise effectively in order to achieve organisational objectives without compromising on quality.

You will have extensive experience of managing organisationally significant contracts, ideally service-led, contract law and a knowledge or understanding of public sector regulations. You do not need to have local audit knowledge or experience - PSAA will provide this through on the job knowledge transfer.

In addition, you will be an exceptional communicator able to negotiate, influence and engage with people across all levels and have an ability to manage potential conflict in a calm and constructive manner.

PSAA are offering an extremely attractive salary and benefits package as well as the opportunity work largely remotely, with only occasional travel to their London office. Their current workforce is spread across the UK so applicants are encouraged from around the country.

This is a truly unique contract management opportunity unlike any other roles in the market and as such a further conversation is recommended to understand the full scope and remit of the post.
