Finance Officer
Job Description
Macildowie are working in partnership with a well-established and growing engineering and project-based organisation to recruit a Finance Officer. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced finance professional to join a dynamic business in a varied and hands-on role with leadership responsibility.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the financial health of the business through accurate financial reporting, strong financial controls, and operational support across projects and finance functions. You will also provide day-to-day management and support to a Finance Administrator.
The Role
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Maintain accurate financial records across projects and business operations
- Support month-end processes alongside the wider finance team
- Assist with audits and provide required financial documentation
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, and governance requirements
- Monitor cash flow and liquidity
- Support project managers with cost-to-complete analysis, WIP, and margin tracking
Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Support
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities
- Monitor costs, expenditure, and financial variances
- Collaborate with operational teams to provide financial insight and support decision-making
- Support financial analysis across projects and operations
Cashflow, Payments & Financial Controls
- Monitor debtors and support debt management processes
- Process and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
- Manage supplier payment runs and expense approvals
- Reconcile company credit cards and associated transactions
- Support supplier and employee expense payments
Purchasing & Supplier Administration
- Set up new customers and suppliers within financial systems
- Raise, amend, and receipt purchase orders
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies
- Maintain finance-related supplier compliance documentation
Payroll & HR Finance Support
- Support payroll processing and liaise with HR teams
- Review and approve employee expenses in line with company policy and HMRC regulations
- Assist with payroll reconciliations and statutory reporting where required
Finance Team Management
- Provide line management and support to the Finance Administrator
- Coordinate workloads and support performance management activities
- Act as an escalation point for finance and compliance matters
- Support process improvements and identify opportunities for automation and efficiency
- Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and strong financial controls
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Previous experience in a finance, accounts, or finance operations role
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, receivable, and reconciliations
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel
- AAT qualification or equivalent experience
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within a project-based, engineering, or technical environment
- Familiarity with purchase order systems and job costing
- Exposure to budgeting, forecasting, or management accounts
- Previous experience supervising or managing staff
