Job Description

Macildowie are working in partnership with a well-established and growing engineering and project-based organisation to recruit a Finance Officer. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced finance professional to join a dynamic business in a varied and hands-on role with leadership responsibility.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the financial health of the business through accurate financial reporting, strong financial controls, and operational support across projects and finance functions. You will also provide day-to-day management and support to a Finance Administrator.

The Role

Financial Operations & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate financial records across projects and business operations
  • Support month-end processes alongside the wider finance team
  • Assist with audits and provide required financial documentation
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, and governance requirements
  • Monitor cash flow and liquidity
  • Support project managers with cost-to-complete analysis, WIP, and margin tracking

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Support

  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Monitor costs, expenditure, and financial variances
  • Collaborate with operational teams to provide financial insight and support decision-making
  • Support financial analysis across projects and operations

Cashflow, Payments & Financial Controls

  • Monitor debtors and support debt management processes
  • Process and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
  • Manage supplier payment runs and expense approvals
  • Reconcile company credit cards and associated transactions
  • Support supplier and employee expense payments

Purchasing & Supplier Administration

  • Set up new customers and suppliers within financial systems
  • Raise, amend, and receipt purchase orders
  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies
  • Maintain finance-related supplier compliance documentation

Payroll & HR Finance Support

  • Support payroll processing and liaise with HR teams
  • Review and approve employee expenses in line with company policy and HMRC regulations
  • Assist with payroll reconciliations and statutory reporting where required

Finance Team Management

  • Provide line management and support to the Finance Administrator
  • Coordinate workloads and support performance management activities
  • Act as an escalation point for finance and compliance matters
  • Support process improvements and identify opportunities for automation and efficiency
  • Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and strong financial controls

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a finance, accounts, or finance operations role
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable, receivable, and reconciliations
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • AAT qualification or equivalent experience

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working within a project-based, engineering, or technical environment
  • Familiarity with purchase order systems and job costing
  • Exposure to budgeting, forecasting, or management accounts
  • Previous experience supervising or managing staff
