About the Role
As an Accounts Assistant, you will be responsible for completing a range of financial transactions for a defined portfolio of clients, ensuring all work is processed accurately and within agreed timescales. You'll support key finance functions including purchase ledger, sales ledger, payroll preparation, VAT and month-end activities, while maintaining excellent communication with clients and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Process financial transactions accurately and efficiently across a portfolio of clients.
- Prepare VAT returns.
- Assist with payroll preparation.
- Process purchase ledger transactions.
- Prepare and issue unpaid bills reports.
- Prepare weekly payment runs.
- Support sales ledger and credit control activities.
- Complete bank and weekly bank reconciliations.
- Perform month-end reconciliations and adjustments.
- Manage the client inbox, responding to, actioning and filing emails in a timely manner.
- Maintain and update client "How To" documents.
- Participate in the team phone rota.
Key Requirements
- Previous experience in a similar Accounts Assistant OR transactional finance role, OR recent Graduate.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills (equivalent to GCSE Grade 5 or above in English and Maths).
- Experience using Microsoft Office, including Excel.
- AAT, CIMA or ACCA trainee, or qualified by experience.
- Experience using accounting software, preferably QuickBooks, Xero or Sage.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel within a finance environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
- Reliable, proactive and supportive team player with a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
