Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Location: Loughborough, Leicestershire
Working pattern: On site, 5 days per week

The Role
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing financial operations, ensuring robust financial management, regulatory compliance and accurate reporting. The role supports strategic decision-making while maintaining strong cost control in a complex, multi-site environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare monthly management accounts including profit & loss, balance sheet and cash flow reports
- Lead the year-end accounting process and associated reporting requirements
- Lead budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes
- Prepare financial statements for Group and subsidiaries
- Monitor financial performance against budgets and provide variance analysis
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting to senior management
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and relevant reporting requirements
- Manage external audits and liaise with auditors
- Maintain strong internal controls and financial governance
Cash Flow & Cost Control
- Manage cash flow, working capital and liquidity across operations
- Oversee payroll, supplier payments and revenue collection
- Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining operational effectiveness
Team Leadership
- Lead and develop the finance team
- Provide training and support to non-finance managers on budgets and financial processes
- Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Business Partnering
- Work closely with operational teams to support financial performance
- Provide financial insights relating to operational performance metrics, staffing costs and service delivery
- Support business growth, acquisitions and integrations
Systems & Process Improvement
- Oversee financial systems and ensure data integrity
- Drive process improvements and efficiency within finance operations
- Support implementation of new financial systems or reporting tools
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
- Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent)
- Proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role
- Strong knowledge of management accounting and financial reporting
- Experience managing budgets and cash flow
- Advanced Excel and financial systems experience
Desirable
- Experience in a multi-site organisation
- Understanding of complex funding or revenue structures
- Experience using finance systems such as Sage
