Job Description
The Role
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Financial Assistant to join a small, collaborative finance team. This is a varied role where you will support both the purchase and sales ledger functions, while assisting with a wide range of financial and administrative duties.
You’ll play a key part in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the finance function, contributing to accurate financial processing, reporting, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Raise purchase orders in line with company policies and accounting standards
- Create, process, and issue invoices accurately and in a timely manner
- Record incoming payments and carry out credit control activities
- Process payments via BACS, CHAPS, and SWIFT
- Perform daily bank reconciliations and review bank statements
- Manage petty cash in accordance with internal procedures
- Support EU VAT reclaims on fuel
- Maintain organised financial records (electronic and paper-based)
- Assist with financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
- Monitor cash flow and debtor days, reporting as required
- Support cost centre reporting and analysis
- Assist with audit preparation and provide required documentation
- Conduct credit checks and set up new customer accounts
- Provide cover across the finance team when needed
- Respond to finance-related queries from internal and external stakeholders
- Assist with payroll processing (UK & EU), including new starter setup and reporting
About You
- Previous experience in a finance role, ideally covering both purchase and sales ledger
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in data entry
- Confident IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel and finance systems
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Well organised with the ability to prioritise and manage workloads effectively
- Proactive and able to work independently as well as part of a team
- Strong relationship-building skills with internal stakeholders
- Comfortable working with financial data (GCSE Maths Grade C/Level 4 or above or equivalent)
