Payroll Assistant/ Bookkeeper (Temporary, Part-Time)
Location: Corby, Northamptonshire
Salary: £15.00 - £20.00 per hour (equivalent to c.£40,000 FTE)
Working Arrangement: Hybrid working available - 2 days in the office - Flexibility on this
Employment Type: Temporary (with potential longer-term opportunity)
Macildowie are working with this client based in Corby, a well-established business in the construction and engineering industry with a turnover of £7-10 million. They are seeking a part-time Payroll Manager / Senior Bookkeeper to provide cover for 2-3 days per week whilst the business considers its longer-term structure.
A key requirement for this role is a solid understanding of the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), as this function is critical to the smooth running of their payroll and finance processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage weekly, monthly, and CIS payrolls (approx. 55-60 staff).
- Ensure compliance with CIS legislation and payroll requirements.
- Prepare and submit CIS returns.
- Audit payroll inputs/outputs and report to directors.
- Prepare P11d and year-end processes.
- Support bookkeeping duties including VAT returns, reconciliations, and cost vs budget analysis.
- Liaise with external accountants where required.
Key Requirements:
- Strong working knowledge of CIS returns is essential.
- Proficiency with Sage Payroll and job management systems (Equito desirable).
- Previous payroll and bookkeeping experience in a construction-related environment advantageous.
- Ability to work part-time (2-3 days per week) on site in Corby.
