Job Description

Macildowie are working with a well-established business based in Abington, Northampton who are seeking to appoint an Accounts Assistant to join their friendly and supportive Finance team. Salary: £28,000 to £32,000 per annum
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Working Arrangement: Hybrid (Abington, Northampton)

The Role:

As an Accounts Assistant, you will play an important part in the day-to-day running of the finance department, ensuring all financial transactions are completed accurately and on time. You will be responsible for processing invoices, supporting month-end routines, handling cash elements, and helping to maintain accurate financial records.

This is a hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys working with numbers, has strong attention to detail, and is looking to continue developing their finance career within a supportive and well-structured environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process supplier invoices, ensuring accurate coding and authorisation
  • Prepare payment batches and ensure suppliers are paid on time
  • Handle petty cash, daily takings, and cash reconciliations
  • Post daily journals and assist with month-end processes
  • Support with balance sheet and bank reconciliations
  • Maintain the Fixed Asset Register and credit card records
  • Assist in system improvements and staff training where required
  • Provide support during audits and other finance projects

About You:

You'll be organised, detail-focused, and confident managing a busy workload. You'll bring experience from a similar accounts role and be keen to learn and take on new challenges within a growing and supportive team.

Essential:

  • Experience processing invoices and managing payments
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles
  • Confident handling cash and reconciling accounts
  • Intermediate Excel skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

Desirable:

  • Studying towards AAT or equivalent qualification
  • Experience with integrated accounting systems
  • Exposure to management accounts or reporting
  • Previous experience within a not-for-profit or service-led organisation
