Job Title: Assistant Management Accountant
Location: Milton Keynes
The Opportunity:
We're looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Management Accountant to join our finance team during a period of change and growth. This role is central to keeping month-end processes running smoothly, supporting colleagues, and ensuring accurate financial information is available to the business. This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone curious, adaptable, and eager to learn, with plenty of opportunity to develop their management accounting skills.
What Success Looks Like:
- Ensuring month-end closes, reconciliations, and reporting deadlines are met accurately and on time
- Supporting the team by picking up tasks quickly, learning on the job, and proactively helping where needed
- Producing accurate financial information and insight for management decision-making
- Building strong working relationships across the finance team and wider business
- Taking initiative and gradually increasing responsibility as the team evolves
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with month-end and year-end processes, including:
- Preparing journals, accruals, and prepayment workings
- Reconciling balance sheet accounts, including intercompany and control accounts
- Preparing variance analysis and management reporting packs
- Support VAT returns, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and ad-hoc financial analysis
- Support cash flow monitoring and reporting as required
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, supporting schedules, and documentation
- Work alongside analysts and accounts assistants to ensure smooth day-to-day operations
- Contribute to process improvements, automation initiatives, and system updates
- Act as a friendly, approachable point of contact for internal stakeholders
Skills and Attributes:
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Eager to learn, curious, and able to pick up new tasks quickly
- Confident communicating with colleagues across teams and levels
- Friendly, outgoing, and a collaborative team player
- Some practical accounting or finance experience preferred, ideally with exposure to management accounting tasks such as reconciliations, reporting, VAT, accruals/prepayments, budgeting, and forecasting
