Job Description
Macildowie are working with this client based in Bedford to recruit an experienced Payroll Officer on a 12-month Fixed-Term Contract to cover maternity leave. This is a critical hire within a leading engineering and manufacturing business, and the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring timely and accurate monthly payroll delivery.
Contract Type: 12 Month Maternity cover - £17.00 per hour to £19.00 per hour
Working Arrangement: Fully office-based initially, with flexibility over hours and potential for hybrid working after trust is established
Hours: Monday to Thursday 8:30am-4:30pm, Fridays 8:30am-4pm - Open to someone looking for 25-30 hours - can be flexible on this
The Role:
You will manage the monthly bureau-assisted payrolls across three UK and Ireland entities, ensuring compliance with payroll legislation, accurate processing of starters/leavers, enhanced sickness, shift premiums and pension auto-enrolment requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- End-to-end monthly payroll for approx. 106 employees (UK) and 20 (Ireland)
- Processing starters, leavers, pro-rata salaries and shift/overtime adjustments
- Managing pension contributions (Aviva) and auto-enrolment duties
- Producing payroll letters and statutory notifications
- Using ADP (UK) and Zellis/Moorepay (Ireland)
- Applying payroll legislation, statutory deductions and handling complex pay queries
- Supporting general HR administration where needed
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Proven end-to-end payroll experience
- Excellent understanding of payroll legislation and pension auto-enrolment
- Strong Excel skills including VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables
- Exposure to ADP or similar systems preferred
- Ability to spot and resolve payroll discrepancies
