Macildowie are working with this client based in Neath Hill, Milton Keynes.
We are recruiting for a Bookkeeper to join a growing and well-respected business in the construction and services industry. This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to broaden their finance experience across bookkeeping and payroll, in a supportive and down-to-earth environment that encourages development. Study support is available for AAT or equivalent qualifications.
This is a permanent, full-time position with an initially office-based setup, with one of the nicest offices you will ever work in!
- Salary: £28,000 - £32,000 depending on experience
- Study support: AAT or equivalent qualification
- Working arrangement: Office-based initially, then hybrid
- Holiday: 20 days plus bank holidays, increasing with service

The Role:
As Bookkeeper, you'll play a key part in the day-to-day running of the finance function. Working closely with the Finance Controller, Accounts Supervisor and wider team, you'll support across key areas including payroll, subcontractor payments, invoicing, expenses and VAT.
This is a hands-on, varied role that would suit someone either with existing experience, or an early-stage finance professional looking to progress their career within a supportive and long-standing team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Running and processing the weekly payroll (approx. 35 staff)
- Processing and coding supplier and subcontractor invoices
- Managing weekly expenses and project-related costs
- Supporting on VAT returns, PAYE, CIS and pension deductions
- Subcontractor payments and ledger updates
- Working on reconciliations and supporting month-end processes
- Ad hoc reporting and project work as required
About You:
- Experience in a finance or bookkeeping environment
- Exposure to or willingness to learn payroll
- AAT part-qualified or looking to start study (study support provided)
- Strong communication skills and a team-focused attitude
- Confident using accounting software and Excel
