A fifth of our Consultants at Macildowie are Loughborough Alumni and we currently have a Loughborough graduate working at every level of the business – from Trainee to Director level. In fact, pretty much all our Loughborough Alumni started their Macildowie careers straight out of Uni!
I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce you to a selection of our Loughborough Alumni – if you’ve got what it takes to join this fantastic bunch get in touch – We’re recruiting!
First up is Rebecca – the office Chihuahua; small in size big in character. Rebecca is by far the most enthusiastic and proactive of our consultants; she truly lives the Macildowie value of ‘Passion for Customers’ by building excellent relationships with candidates and clients alike. This is helped by the skills she built as mascot and occasional utility player for the LSUWFC (both on the field and in the student union). She is the also the office “Social Media Guru,” offering advice to some of our less tech-savvy consultants on the latest trends on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and occasionally Tinder.
Next we give you Andy – Macildowie’s answer to Richard Branson. He’s a Chartered Accountant, MBA scholar, occasional Goalkeeper for Loughborough FC and coach of Barrow Town under 11’s, as well as owning Car Servicing, Inflatable Party Equipment and other weird and wonderful businesses. As if that wasn’t enough, Andy has come across to the ‘dark side’ and joined us in recent times as a Consultant and with him has bought a vast amount of knowledge and expertise from his experiences on the other side of the fence as a Finance Director – both as a candidate and client of Macildowie. He can still be seen on campus, particularly around Fresher’s Week delivering and collecting his mechanical bull, sumo suits or inflatable slides from the various hall’s welcome parties.
Talking of Fresher’s Week… Meet Mark – you may have seen him on the 1st XV rugby pitch on occasion (or at Hey Ewe afterwards). He’s the office social sec; which means our team socials and incentives are never dull. His competitive nature and likeable personality means that he has progressed quickly in the Leicestershire Finance market and this means he smashes his targets regularly; chances are he’ll be going to Vegas next year. The flexible working hours that we have here means he still has time for the gym (or a lie in) and can still be seen wandering around campus on occasion in his flip flops and shorts!
Meet Row; she joined the business back in 2012 and has been to Vegas twice since then. Plus, she hit her ‘New York Target’ in year 1 which means she has a 100% success record so far (something she is used to having been to Loughborough). When she’s not recruiting or travelling the globe in her green VW campervan, you’re likely to find Row on the football pitch, roaming her Welsh homeland or raving at music festivals. Her recent interests include windsurfing and paddle boarding… this must have come from the belief that we “Walk on Water”! Row has 4 years experience in recruitment, and 12 years experience living in Loughborough - many of you may recognise her from the many FND’s and Dub-boro’s she still frequents…
Meet Ian, the silent assassin who joined Macildowie in October 2012 following an introduction from Will at the Loughborough Graduate Careers Fair. Ian is a long suffering Derby fan and also enjoys golf and cricket but was never good enough to play for Loughborough in any of them! With no prior experience in recruitment, he joined the Macildowie ‘talent pool’ straight out of university and now recruits Part-Qualified Accountants across Nottinghamshire and Staffordshire. He is well on track to hit his Vegas target this year which won’t do much for his bank balance or paying off his student loan, given the fact he loves a gamble as well.
Katie is the resident office blonde – with her high heels and pink Prada handbags (the result of hitting one of our incentives), it would be easy to presume that she lives up to the stereotype. However, with a Degree and a Masters from Loughborough, her quick wit means that she can hold her own against others in the office. Her first trip to Las Vegas resulted in her falling asleep on a bridge; a far cry from the Cayley Halls she lived in for 2 years. She had to move out eventually though, and has recently bought her first house not far from the office; perfect for the girls who want to get ready before the regular work socials. Her caring nature means she is well suited to HR Recruitment and her competitive personality (which seems to be a common trait amongst Loughborough grads) means she has done very well in this division.
Now for Will, who supported the growth of our Sales & Marketing Division in 2012. Ex-AU President, a keen rugby follower and lover of all things West Bridgford, Will truly lives our ‘Find A Way’ value and has grown the Sales & Marketing team to 7, whilst supporting vertical and geographical strategy across the UK. With Sales & Marketing recruitment now going from strength to strength, Kelvin has also joined the division to support board strategy and take operations to the next level. Will is a part time Newcastle fan who rears his head on the rare occasions the Toon beat Liverpool……
Then there’s Kelvin or "Kev" as we now call him much to his dislike. Kelvin graduated from Loughborough (and his AV’s!) many moons ago and got into recruitment through one of the guys he played cricket with at Uni. Kev worked for Michael Page for a number of years but then saw the light and joined the Leadership team at Macildowie earlier this year. Kev loves the fact that Macildowie are a very different breed of recruiter – One which really cares about the people they work with (both colleagues and customers). In Kev’s words, “everything is “work hard, play hard” these days, but Macildowie really have surpassed my expectations and I’m loving the journey – come and get on board!”
And lastly, I’m Arran, the first ever Loughborough grad to walk through the doors at Macildowie. I did Geography and Sport and Leisure Management at Uni so Recruitment was the obvious career choice. I’ve been fortunate enough to progress through the ranks at Macs from a Trainee in 2005 to Associate Director today.
It’s been a great journey with many highs (and a few lows) along the way and I look back fondly on my days at Loughborough and the skills and experiences that helped me get to where I am today. I was back at Loughborough recently for a meeting to discuss how we can hopefully double the number of Loughborough Alumni working at Macildowie. It’s not that I am biased towards Loughborough graduates, it’s just that they tend to be the best, so if you are about to graduate or have recently graduated and want to come and join myself, Becca, Andy, Mark, Row, Ian, Katie, Will and Kev at a Sunday Times Top 5 Business get in touch with me by clicking the below button:
