Job Description

I am currently recruiting a new Assistant Accountant role, working for a manufacturing business based in Nottingham. Established over 60 years ago, the company's performance has remained consistent over the last 5 years. They are now looking to hire an Assistant Accountant to join the team and support the Finance Manager and Head of Finance with the day to day running of the department.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is AAT Qualified or Qualified by Experience to join a growing finance team.

The role is based in Nottingham and the salary for this role will be £40,000 - £45,000 depending on experience.

Assistant Accountant, Nottingham

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts, including accruals and prepayments.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including bank reconciliations, debtor/creditor accounts, and control accounts.
  • Process journals and maintain accurate general ledger postings.
  • Assist with the preparation of VAT returns and other statutory reporting.
  • Monitor accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accurate coding and timely payments.
  • Support budget and forecasting activities.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, providing requested information.
  • Maintain financial records in compliance with company policies and relevant accounting standards.
  • Provide ad hoc support to the Finance Manager and wider finance team

Essential:

  • AAT qualified or qualified by relevant experience.
  • Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (vlookups, pivot tables) and other MS Office applications.
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g. Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar).
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
