Job Description

Accounts Assistant - 12-Month FTC (Likely Extension)
Location: Melton (Office-Based)
Salary: Up to £30,000 for junior candidates / up to £35,000 for experienced candidates

We're working exclusively with a well-established construction and engineering business based in Melton who are looking for an Accounts Assistant to join their finance team on a 12-month fixed-term contract, with a strong likelihood of extension.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with solid accounts payable and costing experience to play a key role within a busy, project-focused finance environment.

The Role

Working closely with the wider finance and project teams, you'll support all areas of accounts payable, purchase orders, cost reporting and payroll administration to ensure accuracy and compliance across financial processes.

Key Responsibilities include:
Payments

  • Process subcontractor and supplier invoices, matching to purchase orders and goods receipts
  • Produce and issue subcontractor payment certificates for approval
  • Manage weekly payment runs, checking invoice terms and accuracy before release

Procurement & Purchase Orders

  • Set up new suppliers and subcontractors following receipt of required information forms
  • Process and amend purchase orders in line with project requirements and internal approval levels
  • Maintain and update purchase order trackers to ensure costs are coded accurately for reporting
  • Support project and commercial teams with PO and supplier queries

Cost Reporting

  • Collate cost information from multiple sources to support monthly cost reporting
  • Reallocate costs and prepare accruals for known items not yet invoiced
  • Input monthly forecasts into the ledger
  • Produce cost summaries including disallowed costs, labour reports, and partner cost allocations

Payroll Support

  • Validate contractor and employee timesheets daily and weekly
  • Prepare and send wagesheets to deadlines
  • Maintain monthly timesheet trackers and support payroll processing

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in Accounts Payable / Accounts Assistant roles
  • Proven experience processing high volumes of invoices and payment runs
  • Confident working with purchase orders and subcontractor payments
  • Strong costing experience, ideally within a project-led or construction-related environment
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong Excel and system skills (e.g. data entry, reconciliation, reporting)
  • Confident communicator with the ability to liaise across finance, commercial and operational teams

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Experience working in construction, engineering or manufacturing industries
  • Exposure to cost reporting or ledger forecasting
  • Understanding of project-based finance or multi-entity reporting
  • Familiarity with invoice approval or document management systems (e.g. SharePoint, PO workflows)
