Payroll Officer - 12 Month Contract

Macildowie are working with this client based in Wellingborough to recruit a Payroll Officer on a 12-month interim assignment. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a long-established, family-owned organisation during a period of business transformation and operational improvement. With a group turnover exceeding £150m, this business is a recognised name within the UK's food manufacturing and production sector, supplying major supermarkets nationwide.
Hourly Rate: £20.50 - £22.50 per hour
Employment Type: Interim (12 months)
Working Arrangement: Office-based with potential flexibility depending on experience
The Role:
Working closely with the Payroll Manager, you'll provide day-to-day operational payroll support across both weekly and monthly cycles, handling payroll for a multi-site workforce with varied contractual terms. You'll also support wider payroll and HR systems improvements as the business invests in better tools and processes, including a new ATS and benefits programme.
This is a hands-on role requiring someone who can confidently handle complex payroll scenarios and bring a proactive approach to process improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
Processing accurate weekly and monthly payrolls
Managing multiple pay rates, T&Cs, overtime structures, and sickness rules
Supporting compliance, audit requirements, and internal controls
Assisting in the roll-out of HR systems (including SE Works and Dynamics 365)
Collaborating with HR and Finance during a period of change
Supporting payroll transition from a recently acquired sister business
Identifying inefficiencies and helping to enhance processes
What We're Looking For:
Demonstrable experience of running end-to-end payroll
Solid Excel and payroll systems knowledge
Ability to manage complexity across departments and varying T&Cs
Strong communication skills with a collaborative approach
A problem-solver who takes initiative and delivers accuracy under pressure
Experience in a manufacturing, FMCG or similar environment would be beneficial
