Payroll Specialist - Temporary to Permanent
Location: Milton Keynes
Salary: £15 per hour to £16.50 per hour
Employment Type: Temp-to-Perm

Macildowie are working with this client based in Milton Keynes to recruit a Payroll Specialist to join their finance team on a temporary to permanent basis.

This well-established electrical contracting and interior refurbishment business has built its reputation through consistent delivery and word-of-mouth recommendations. Having recently transitioned into an Employee Ownership Trust, they offer a collaborative culture where staff are empowered and rewarded.

You'll be working closely with an experienced and close-knit finance team, supporting weekly payroll for around 35 employees, managing expenses, and processing subcontractor payments. You'll also liaise regularly with the HR Manager and Financial Controller to ensure payroll accuracy and cost control across multiple projects.

This role requires someone who is detail-driven, used to hitting deadlines, and enjoys working in a supportive but autonomous environment. If you've got a strong background in payroll, particularly weekly payroll, and are looking to join a team where your work makes a direct impact - this could be the role for you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Processing weekly payroll for c.35 employees
  • Reviewing and ensuring approval of timesheets and overtime
  • Handling pension deductions, AoE, student loans, and statutory entitlements
  • Managing all payroll changes and submissions to HMRC
  • Processing weekly expenses and subcontractor invoices
  • Running fortnightly subcontractor payment run and CIS returns
  • Supporting monthly PAYE, CIS, and Reverse VAT returns
  • Assisting with payroll year-end and reconciliation tasks
  • Working cross-functionally with HR and Commercial teams

Key Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of PAYE, HMRC submissions, and statutory deductions
  • Experience with CIS preferred (not essential)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
  • High attention to detail and deadline-driven
  • CIPP qualified or working towards (desirable)
