Job Description
Join a fast-paced snack manufacturing business where your engineering expertise keeps high-volume FMCG production running smoothly around the clock. Working on a 4 on 4 off rotating days and nights shift pattern, youll play a key role in ensuring automated lines, PLCs and electrical systems operate safely, efficiently and with minimal downtime.
About the Role:
You will be responsible for maintaining and improving a range of automated production and packaging equipment within a modern snack manufacturing facility. The role focuses on both preventive and corrective maintenance, ensuring equipment reliability and supporting continuous improvement initiatives to optimise line performance and reduce breakdowns.
Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out planned preventive maintenance on production and packaging machinery to minimise downtime.
* Respond promptly to breakdowns, diagnosing faults and completing corrective maintenance to restore equipment safely.
* Troubleshoot PLC-controlled systems and automation equipment to resolve control and sequence issues.
* Identify and rectify electrical faults on machinery, panels and site services in line with safety standards.
* Conduct root cause analysis on recurring equipment issues and implement robust corrective actions.
* Support and drive continuous improvement projects to enhance machine reliability, efficiency and product quality.
* Collaborate with production teams to prioritise maintenance activities and ensure smooth handovers between shifts.
* Maintain accurate maintenance records, update CMMS systems and contribute to engineering documentation.
Key Requirements:
* Proven experience as a Maintenance Engineer in an FMCG or high-speed manufacturing environment.
* Strong background in both preventive and corrective maintenance on automated production equipment.
* Hands-on experience with PLC-based control systems and industrial automation.
* Solid electrical maintenance skills, including fault-finding and troubleshooting on machinery and control systems.
* Demonstrated ability to perform structured root cause analysis and implement sustainable solutions.
* Comfortable working 4 on 4 off rotating shifts covering days and nights.
* Ability to work independently, make sound decisions under time pressure, and prioritise tasks effectively.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience within a food or snack manufacturing environment.
* Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.
* Basic mechanical skills, including bearings, conveyors and pneumatics.
* Experience using computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Qualifications:
* Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent in Electrical or Multi-Skilled Engineering.
* Level 3 or above qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or related discipline.
* 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification preferred.
* Additional training in PLCs, automation or continuous improvement methodologies advantageous.
