Design Manager – MEP / Building Services

Macildowie are working with this client based in Glenfield, Leicester to recruit an experienced Design Manager to join an established mechanical and electrical building services business.
This is a key technical appointment, taking ownership of the design programme and ensuring information is coordinated, controlled and released in line with project, procurement and installation requirements.
Working closely with Operations, Project, Commercial and Site teams, you'll provide the technical oversight needed to keep projects moving while maintaining robust design and document control.
The Role
As Design Manager, you'll take ownership of the design process across live projects, ensuring technical information is accurate, coordinated, appropriately approved and available when required.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Owning and maintaining project design programmes and information release schedules
- Managing RFIs and technical submittals, ensuring overdue or critical items are actively progressed
- Coordinating design reviews and clash resolution
- Maintaining BIM and Autodesk standards
- Reviewing and authorising drawings and technical information prior to upload
- Verifying uploaded drawings, revisions, statuses, metadata and filing locations
- Maintaining accurate drawing and revision registers
- Preventing the release or use of unapproved, superseded or conflicting information
- Working with project and procurement teams to align design deliverables with installation need dates
- Reporting design performance, exceptions, capacity issues and recovery actions
- Supporting as-built information, O&M documentation, testing, commissioning and project handover
- Maintaining clear technical records and audit trails throughout the project lifecycle
About You
You'll be an experienced Design Manager, MEP Design Manager or Building Services professional who understands how strong technical coordination directly impacts successful project delivery.
You'll ideally bring:
- Previous design management experience within M&E, MEP or building services
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical design coordination
- Experience managing RFIs, submittals, drawing registers and technical information
- Good knowledge of BIM and Autodesk-based workflows
- Experience coordinating and resolving design clashes
- Strong document and revision control disciplines
- The confidence to challenge incomplete, conflicting or unapproved technical information
- Strong stakeholder management skills across design, commercial, operations and site teams
- A structured approach to deadlines, technical risk and escalation
- Experience supporting as-built and O&M information through to project handover
