Job Description

Governance Manager | Loughborough| £42,000 - £48,000
Macildowie are delighted to be partnering with Swim England, based in Loughborough, for an exciting opportunity as Governance Manager.

This is a newly created role following a promotion within the team and internal appetite to elevate the level of operation, putting in place best practice across internal and external governance of the organisation.

This could present a great opportunity for an individual willing to learn and progress perhaps from a slightly more junior position or someone from a comparable charitable/ membership organisation who has the desire to add value and truly leave a lasting impact.

Organisation
Swim England is the recognised national governing body for swimming, artistic swimming, diving and water polo in England. They help people learn how to swim, enjoy the water safely, and maximise their potential in aquatic sport at every level - from community participation to world-class performance.

They work with clubs, coaches, teachers and volunteers across the country to create safe, inclusive and inspiring aquatic environments. As a membership organisation and charity, they are committed to supporting the growth of our sports, promoting physical and mental wellbeing, and ensuring everybody has the opportunity to enjoy a lifelong love of the water.

Overview
- £42,000 - £48,000
- Willing to sponsor qualifications or CPD relating to the role (including governance or H&S qualifications)
- 7% employer pension contribution
- 33 days annual leave (including bank holidays)
- Hybrid working (site based in the Sport Park, Loughborough, LE11 3QF)

Key Responsibilities
-
Lead the delivery and ongoing management of the Swim England Governance Review Implementation Plan.
- Oversee compliance with the UK Code for Sports Governance, Charity Commission and Companies House requirements, with the potential to act as Company Secretary.
- Support governance processes for the Board, Committees and senior leadership, including recruitment, induction and evaluation.
- Maintain and update core governance documentation, including Articles of Association, Terms of Reference, the Swim England Handbook and organisational policies.
- Oversee Health & Safety responsibilities across Swim England.
- Coordinate production of the Annual Governance Statement and other reports to the Board and the Audit, Risk & Governance Committee.
- Support strategic risk management processes.

Requirements
- Both an understanding and experience of governance principles - from either a purely governance focused position or role such as company secretary
- Experience drafting, reviewing and maintaining governance documents (e.g. Articles of Association, Terms of Reference, policies).
- Experience working with Boards, Committees or senior leadership teams in a governance or company secretarial role.

Desirable
- Knowledge of the Code for Sports Governance
