Job Description
Head of Finance
Riding for the Disabled Association
Kingswood, Warwickshire (CV35)
Salary - £55,000 per annum FTE (four-days per week)
The Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) is a national charity with a powerful mission: improving the lives of people with disabilities through the unique bond between people and horses. As pioneers in the therapeutic use of horses, leaders in disability sport RDA are the only major UK charity focused specifically on the health and wellbeing benefits of bringing people and horses together. Each year, RDA supports around 39,000 children and adults, helping them build confidence, independence and physical wellbeing across their network of over 400 centres nationwide.
RDA is proud to have Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal as President. Princess Anne is highly engaged with the charity and a passionate advocate for its work, regularly supporting and championing RDA's activities across the country.
Macildowie's public sector team are delighted to be working in partnership with RDA to recruit a new Head of Finance, a key senior appointment that will help safeguard the charity's financial sustainability and support its long-term impact.
Reporting to the Director of Finance & Resources, this role combines strategic financial leadership with hands-on oversight of day-to-day finance operations within a values-driven, national organisation.
About the role
As Head of Finance, you will:
- Lead on budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning
- Oversee monthly management accounts, cashflow forecasting and variance analysis
- Ensure timely and accurate year-end accounts and manage the external audit process
- Maintain compliance with charity and statutory reporting requirements
- Oversee restricted funds, grant reporting and donor compliance
- Develop financial systems, controls and processes to support effective decision-making
- Line manage and develop a small finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to build financial understanding and accountability
About you
You may be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) or qualified by experience, with strong experience in financial management within a small or medium-sized organisation. Experience within the charity or not-for-profit sector is welcomed but not essential; candidates from the private or public sectors will also be considered where there is a clear motivation to apply their skills in a charitable environment.
You will bring a sound understanding of financial governance, controls and reporting, alongside the confidence to partner with non-finance colleagues and contribute at a strategic level. Most importantly, you'll be motivated by RDA's mission and keen to use your expertise to support a charity delivering real social impact.
Working pattern and flexibility
This role is four days per week (30 hours), with two days based at RDA's National Office at Lowlands Equestrian Centre in Warwickshire and the remainder worked flexibly from home. The salary is £55,000 per annum full-time equivalent, offered on a pro-rata basis.
Why join RDA?
This is a rare opportunity to use your financial expertise to support a well-loved national charity making a tangible difference every day. You'll work alongside passionate colleagues, engage with a committed and visible President and board, and help ensure RDA can continue delivering life-changing opportunities for riders, carriage drivers and volunteers across the UK.
