Job Description

Job Title: Safeguarding Officer
Location: Hybrid (Office-based in Leicestershire, with flexible working options)
Hours: Full-time, permanent. Monday - Friday. 35 hours per week

Overview:

A leading sports organisation is looking for a dedicated and experienced Safeguarding Officer to lead safeguarding efforts across clubs and regions. This pivotal role will involve managing safeguarding cases, providing guidance to clubs, and ensuring the delivery of safeguarding best practices across the organisation.

Role and Responsibilities:

Safeguarding Leadership & Investigations:

  • Take the lead on safeguarding investigations using a person-centred approach, ensuring positive outcomes.
  • Provide support to club safeguarding investigations within a nominated region, offering advice and guidance.
  • Collaborate with statutory agencies as part of the wider safeguarding system, attending meetings and completing referrals.

Independent Investigator Liaison:

  • Act as a point of contact for independent investigators, ensuring they have all relevant information for safeguarding cases.
  • Keep all relevant parties updated on cases, including suspensions.

Guidance & Support:

  • Provide safeguarding support to members and clubs, helping them navigate safeguarding legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Advise regions, counties, and clubs about a wide range of safeguarding issues, contributing to the development of a positive safeguarding culture.
  • Input into the publication of safeguarding policies such as Wavepower and other related materials.

Training & Best Practice:

  • Ensure best practice, new policies, and guidance are communicated to Swim England Membership and the broader organisation.
  • Offer direct support to regional, county, and club welfare officers, helping them maintain high standards of safeguarding.

General Safeguarding Duties:

  • Carry out any other duties within the scope of the role and proactively comply with organisation policies and procedures.

About You:

Essential:

  • Safeguarding experience in a similar role.
  • Experience working with volunteers or voluntary organisations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions regarding risks to children and adults in safeguarding contexts.
  • Ability to identify and manage safeguarding risks.
  • Experience in responding appropriately to safeguarding complaints or disclosures.
  • Knowledge of general safeguarding processes and best practices.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within National Governing Bodies, local authorities, or charities.
  • Experience managing lower-level safeguarding investigations.
