Role: Head of Business Development

Location: East Midlands (remote/field-based) - you MUST be based in the U.K. to be considered for this role

Salary: £70,000 - £100,000

Term: Permanent, Full-time

Macildowie are working exclusively with a well-established and highly regarded organisation based in the Midlands (selling into the construction sector), to recruit a Head of Business Development on a permanent basis.

Operating within a dynamic and fast-evolving environment, this organisation has built a strong reputation for delivering reliable, specialist solutions across major infrastructure and construction projects. They are now looking to appoint a commercially-astute and hungry individual who can play a key role in their next phase of growth.

Critically, this position offers a clear and defined progression pathway into a Commercial Director role, making it an ideal opportunity for an ambitious sales professional looking to step into a strategic leadership position.

This role is focused on driving new business growth across large-scale construction organisations, engaging primarily with central procurement teams and senior stakeholders. The successful candidate will be responsible for opening doors with major industry players, developing long-term relationships, and navigating complex, multi-touch sales cycles.

Key responsibilities include:

  • You will take ownership of the full sales life-cycle, from prospecting and lead generation through to negotiation and securing framework agreements. This role requires a strategic and patient approach, where success is built over time through consistent engagement, credibility, and industry presence.
  • Developing and executing a targeted business development strategy
  • Building relationships with central procurement stakeholders across major organisations within the Construction sector
  • Generating and nurturing leads through proactive outreach and networking
  • Attending relevant industry events to build brand presence and pipeline
  • Managing long sales cycles with multiple touch-points and stakeholders
  • Negotiating and securing framework agreements

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a proven track record in senior sales or business development roles
  • Demonstrate experience selling into large construction or infrastructure organisations
  • Be confident engaging with central procurement teams
  • Understand the dynamics of long, complex sales cycles
  • Be highly self-motivated, resilient, and driven to open new doors
  • Ideally bring an existing network or 'black book' within the industry
  • Have experience working with or securing framework agreements
