Salary: Up to £37,000 per annum
Employment type: Permanent, full‑time
Working arrangement: Office‑based with hybrid working (2 days from home or 50% of hours from home for part‑time)
About the business & role:
Our client operates within the travel and touring industry, with a strong mission‑driven culture focused on changing lives through travel. They lead in guided touring holidays and operate both group and solo‑traveller touring brands.
In this role you will lead the accounts payable and receivable department, including two direct reports. You will be responsible for reconciliations of the payables and receivables ledgers, banking and accounting systems, processing supplier invoices, managing customer refunds and aged debtor/creditor processes, and working closely with other functions (HR, IT, contact centre, trade & operations). You will also proactively identify improvements in processes and support the transition of the accounting system.
Key responsibilities:
Manage and develop two accounts assistants; hold one‑to‑ones, annual reviews, set SMART objectives and support recruitment and performance management.
Oversee banking operations including monthly reconciliations and working closely with the bank for new account setups.
Process supplier invoices and ensure payments are made within contracted terms.
Manage tour cost accruals to ensure accurate costing of tours.
Lead the customer receipts process (from direct bookings and agencies), cancellations/refunds, self‑billing agreements with agents, VAT invoice issuance.
Oversee staff expense processing and credit card reconciliations; review aged creditors regularly.
Work cross‑functionally with operational teams (contact centre, trade, product, operations) to support queries and improve service.
Drive forward system and process improvements to increase efficiency.
Participate fully in the accounting system transition project.
Candidate requirements:
Minimum 5 years' experience in both accounts payable and accounts receivable functions - including experience managing a team.
Proven ability to reconcile complex ledgers and identify/resolve reconciling items or anomalies.
Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and adapt to changing situations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and particularly Excel.
