Macildowie are working with this client based in Stantonbury, Milton Keynes to recruit a Payroll Assistant to support a small, busy finance team of four within a growing construction & electrical contractor business. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who lives and breathes payroll and is confident handling weekly payroll and related functions.
Role: Payroll Assistant
Salary: £26,000 to £30,000 - Depending on Experience
Employment Type: Permanent, Full‑Time
Hours: 40 hours per week

The Team You'll Support
The finance function consists of four people and is currently covering the workload of five - meaning there's a real need for a dedicated payroll professional to come in and make a difference.
Role Purpose
You will take ownership of weekly payroll and related duties, ensuring timely and accurate pay runs and compliance. The team previously provided junior and AAT‑level roles but now needs someone with specialist payroll experience to lead this area.
Key Responsibilities
- Weekly payroll processing
- Expenses administration
- Subcontractor payments (CIS not a deal‑breaker)
- Handling HMRC payroll enquiries, attachments of earnings and statutory obligations
- Working with Redsky payroll system
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience managing weekly payroll accurately
- Strong understanding of UK PAYE, HMRC rules and payroll compliance
- Ability to work autonomously and improve existing processes
- Positive can‑do attitude and team player
