Job Description

Accounts & Payroll Assistant

Location: Office-based
Salary: £28,000 - £30,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Contract: Permanent

Macildowie Recruitment is pleased to be working with a well-established, growing SME to recruit an Accounts & Payroll Assistant into their finance team. This is a fully office-based role, ideal for a detail-oriented finance professional with strong experience across accounts, credit control, and payroll.

This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in day-to-day financial operations within a fast-paced and collaborative environment.


The Role

Accounts

  • Posting transactions and maintaining accurate financial records within Sage systems

  • Processing supplier invoices and staff expenses accurately and on time

  • Performing daily and monthly bank reconciliations using Sage 50, Sage 200, and Sage Intact

  • Matching purchase orders and delivery notes to invoices

  • Assisting with month-end close activities

  • Handling supplier queries professionally and efficiently

  • Managing a shared finance email inbox

  • Supporting ad-hoc finance projects and process improvements

  • Carrying out other finance duties as required

Credit Control

  • Monitoring customer accounts and outstanding balances

  • Chasing overdue payments via phone and email

  • Maintaining accurate debtor records within Sage

  • Resolving payment queries efficiently

  • Producing aged debtor reports

Payroll

  • Processing payroll accurately and on time

  • Maintaining employee payroll records

  • Processing starters, leavers, and contractual changes

  • Calculating statutory payments (SSP, SMP, etc.)

  • Ensuring compliance with payroll legislation

  • Liaising with HMRC and pension providers


About You

Essential Requirements:

  • Previous experience in an accounts and payroll role

  • Strong working knowledge of Sage 50, Sage 200, and Sage Intacct

  • Proven experience with bank reconciliations and invoice processing

  • Experience in credit control

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
