Job Description

Macildowie are actively seeking a Senior Credit Controller to join the credit control function and play a key role in driving financial performance through improved cash flow and reduced aged debt for our client based in Alfreton.

Salary is based between - £28,000 - £35,000 depending on experience.

Working hours - Monday to Friday - Flexible start and finish (start between 08:00 - 09:30 - finish between 16:30 - 18:00).

You will be joining a team of X4 in Credit control reporting directly into the Credit Control Manager.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong background in credit control, who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is confident leading process improvements and mentoring others. Ideally we would be looking for someone who has previous credit control experience and CIS experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the credit control function, ensuring timely collection of outstanding receivables

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, resolving payment discrepancies professionally

  • Manage and reconcile applications and certificates for payment

  • Attend monthly meetings to review and discuss outstanding works

  • Conduct credit checks and set credit limits based on financial analysis

  • Collaborate with Contract Managers on overdue or disputed contracts

  • Initiate legal proceedings where necessary to recover unpaid debts

  • Drive continuous improvement of credit control processes and systems

  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of invoices and credit notes, with attention to VAT and value

  • Support the finance team with audit queries

What We're Looking For:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar senior credit control role

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently

  • Experience with applications and certificates (highly desirable)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills

  • A proactive, team-oriented approach with a drive for improvement
