Job Description

Macildowie are working with this client based in South Leicester to recruit a Finance Assistant to join a well-structured finance team in a national organisation.
Employment type: Permanent, full-time (to be confirmed at interview)
Working arrangement: Office-based (flexibility available where needed)

Overview:
This opportunity would suit someone who is methodical, confident with numbers, and enjoys working in a process-driven role. The Finance Assistant will support the day-to-day finance operations, with a core focus on purchase ledger, expenses, reconciliations and supplier administration.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Processing subcontractor certifications and invoices (self-billing)

  • Verifying and onboarding new suppliers via HMRC checks

  • Handling ad-hoc and scheduled payment runs

  • Reviewing and coding incoming invoices for accuracy

  • Matching invoices to purchase orders and delivery notes

  • Chasing missing paperwork and liaising with internal teams

  • Managing internal invoice approval workflows

  • Reconciling supplier statements monthly

  • Supporting mid-month and month-end cheque/BACS payment runs

  • Administering employee expense claims in line with company policy

  • Posting nominal ledger journals

  • Managing external payments (e.g. council tax, business rates, NHBC fees)

  • Supporting the finance team during leave or busy periods

  • Playing an active role in the migration to new finance software

  • Assisting with internal audits and system/data integrity checks

Ideal background and experience:

  • Previous experience in a finance or accounts support role

  • Comfortable working with accountancy software

  • GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above) required

  • A-Level Maths would be advantageous

  • Excellent Excel and general IT skills

  • A process-driven mindset with a keen eye for detail

  • Strong communication skills to liaise across departments

  • Ability to work well in a team and on own initiative

  • Able to manage deadlines and balance multiple task
