Join a dynamic and growing property development business where the finance team punches above its size and plays an integral role in delivering quality homes and developments. You'll enjoy a rich mix of duties: checking payroll for c.150 employees (currently outsourced) and resolving queries, owning the purchase ledger for one entity, performing cash‑book reconciliations and stepping into the world of CIS and subcontractor payments. You'll work on the COINS system (or similar) and help shape the accuracy of the finance process across the business.

Role Description

About the Business
Our client is a well‑established property development business based at Meridian Business Park, Leicester. They deliver residential and mixed‑use developments across the Midlands region, with a strong focus on quality, sustainability and repeat business. The finance team is lean yet ambitious, committed to driving accuracy and business insight while supporting a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

Position Summary
As Finance & Payroll Assistant you will report to the Finance Manager and be a key figure within the finance team. You'll manage day‑to‑day ledger activities, payroll oversight & queries, cashbook reconciliations and subcontractor payments (including CIS). You'll help ensure the finance function delivers timely, precise and compliant outputs in support of business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee payroll output for around 150 staff (currently externally processed) - check accuracy, handle queries, liaise with external provider and internal stakeholders.
  • Reconcile payroll variances, investigate anomalies and ensure payroll postings are accurately recorded in the finance system.
  • Maintain cash‑book reconciliations: ensure all receipts and payments are correctly recorded, identify discrepancies and resolve issues promptly.
  • Manage end‑to‑end purchase ledger for one business entity: invoice processing, three‑way matching, supplier queries, payment runs and month end accruals.
  • Administer subcontractor payments: ensure correct documentation, process CIS deductions and payments, ensure compliance with contractor tax regulations and supplier payment terms.
  • Use the COINS ERP (or similar) system for transactional processing, report generation and ledger posting.
  • Assist with finance month‑end tasks: purchase ledger balance checks, accruals, prepayments and providing ad‑hoc reports to the Finance Manager.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the finance team: streamline processes, enhance controls and help build a reporting culture.

What's in it for you

  • Salary up to £35,000 pa.
  • 20 days holiday PLUS option to buy up to 5 additional days.
  • Private medical insurance.
  • Death in service benefit (2× salary).
  • Employer pension contribution of 6 %.
  • Staff bonus, profit‑share scheme and Sharesave (employee share scheme).
  • A vibrant workplace on a major business park in Leicester, collaborating with a motivated finance team and growing business.
