Location: Leicester (Office-based)
Salary: £31,690 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (09:30 - 17:30, Mon - Fri)
Contract: Permanent
Reports to: HR Manager

About the Role

Macildowie are delighted to be supporting a well-established and reputable business in Leicester in their search for an HR Advisor. This is a varied and hands-on generalist role, ideal for someone with strong HR advisory and ER experience, or a motivated people manager looking to step into a more formal HR position.

This position is office-based and will suit someone with strong advisory experience or a motivated individual with supervisory/people management experience looking to step into a busy HR function.

Key Responsibilities

Generalist HR Support

  • Provide generalist HR advice and guidance to employees and managers, ensuring alignment with legislation, policies, and best practice.
  • Act as the first point of contact for HR queries, escalating to the HR Manager where appropriate.
  • Support the HR Manager and Head of HR on operational and strategic HR initiatives.
  • Assist with the review of HR policies, processes, and procedures, making recommendations for improvement.
  • Contribute to departmental KPIs and HR project work.

Employee Relations & People Processes

  • Attend and support first-level ER meetings, including absence, performance, and disciplinary matters, taking notes and offering guidance.
  • Manage short and long-term sickness absence records, providing reports and insights as needed.
  • Carry out exit interviews and produce statistical retention data.
  • Track and support the annual appraisal process, ensuring timely completion and reviewing outcomes with L&D and the HR Manager.
  • Support managers with probation reviews, issuing reminders, attending meetings, and sending completion letters.

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Manage recruitment for admin and entry-level positions, supporting interviews and the approval process.
  • Oversee onboarding and induction, including:
  • Right to work checks
  • Reference requests
  • Screening to BS7858 when required
  • Maintain accurate records of new starters and leavers.

HR Operations & Compliance

  • Maintain HR filing systems, employee records, and documentation in line with GDPR and audit requirements.
  • Produce HR and workforce data for senior management as required.
  • Ensure HR databases and systems (Workday) are kept accurate and up to date.
  • Attend employment law updates, training, and seminars to ensure ongoing professional development.
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve HR processes and enhance service delivery.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to drive business performance and support organisational objectives.
  • Recommend smarter ways of working and contribute to an evolving and high-quality HR service.

Other

  • Manage staff relationships professionally and in line with legal requirements.
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role.

What We Need From You

Essential
Right to Work in the UK
Maths GCSE or equivalent (Grade C/4 or above)
English GCSE or equivalent (Grade C/4 or above)
Competent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Desirable
CIPD Level 5 (or working towards)
Understanding of HR legislation, best practice, and employment law
At least 1 year's experience in a HR advisory or ER-focused role
Confident supporting managers through ER processes
