A major UK provider of community health and social care services is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to lead a team responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and insightful management accounts across a large regional portfolio. The organisation operates at scale nationwide, supporting essential care services with a strong focus on financial integrity, operational performance, and sustainable service delivery.
About the Role
This role is central to the monthly reporting cycle and leadership of the regional finance team. The Finance Manager will oversee the full management accounts process, ensuring strong controls, consistent reporting standards, and high-quality analysis. You will lead, coach, and develop a team of management accountants and analysts, ensuring excellence in output and consistency in financial business partnering. The role requires a balance of technical depth, people leadership, and the ability to influence operational stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, develop, and performance-manage a team of management accountants and finance staff.
- Set clear expectations, create a positive team culture, and support professional development and progression.
- Oversee workload allocation, review outputs, and ensure consistent high-quality reporting across the team.
Management Accounts Ownership
- Lead the preparation, review, and delivery of monthly management accounts for designated regions and services.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to reporting timelines.
- Review variance analysis, commentary, and performance packs, ensuring clarity and actionable insight.
Financial Control & Review
- Maintain robust financial controls, particularly around P&L, balance sheet reconciliations, and accruals/prepayments.
- Oversee the integrity of month-end processes and ensure compliance with internal financial policies.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Support and challenge team members during budgeting and reforecasting cycles.
- Ensure forecasts are accurate, evidence-based, and aligned with operational realities.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with operational managers, ensuring the team provides clear explanations of financial performance.
- Support the team in developing strong business partnering relationships across care services.
Process & Reporting Improvement
- Continuously improve management accounting processes, templates, and reporting standards.
- Champion best practice across the team to enhance efficiency and data accuracy.
Ideal Candidate
- Fully qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, or ACA).
- Strong background in management accounting within a multi-site or service-led environment.
- Demonstrable experience managing and developing finance teams.
- Excellent ability to review, challenge, and elevate the quality of financial outputs.
- Advanced Excel and experience with modern ERP/financial systems.
- Confident communicator capable of supporting team members in engaging with non-financial stakeholders.
- Proactive, organised, and committed to continuous improvement.
